On the morning of February 15th, the world woke to the heinous news of 21 Christian men from Egypt being beheaded together by the hands of ISIS terrorists.
Understandably, many are calling for an escalation in the war against the leadership of ISIS. Yet we hear so few calling for the salvation of the leaders of ISIS.
Yes we want the violence to end around the world. Yes we want the Lord to save us from such brutality. But how much more profound is a prayer to save the men of ISIS rather than saving us from those men. Which is more lasting?…the peace found by the hands of men or the peace found through the hands of God and His salvation of men through Christ?
Take a moment to whisper the name of the leader of ISIS…Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Pray for the Lord Jesus Christ to save the soul of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Let the Lord Jesus Christ set it on your heart to pray for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by name. That Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi may come to desire and pursue Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Lord, as our hearts cry over the barbaric brutality of ISIS, as followers of Jesus Christ we should be crying out too for the salvation of the ISIS leadership. Take a moment, close your eyes, and cry out to the Lord the name of the leader of ISIS…Abu Bakr ul-Bughdahdi. Pray for the Lord Jesus Christ to save his soul.
Dear Lord, we pray for Abu Bakr ul-Bughdahdi. Save him. Draw him close to you. Where ever he is at this very moment we pray he encounters you. We pray that when Abu Bakr ul-Bughdahdi sleeps, he dreams of you. When he is awake we pray he clearly hears your voice. Lord, set him apart as one of your children. Let him understand that his sin has separated himself from you and by your grace through faith in your son his sins will be forgiven, he will seek repentance, and he will be given the miracle of assurance of eternal life that you given to all those whom you have called. And it is in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
2,000 years ago another terrorist from the city of Tarsus in Turkey named Saul was killing Christians. Instead of his destruction the Lord drew him close, changed his name to Paul, redeemed him, and through Paul’s writings the Lord expanded the message of the Gospel to the world. Imagine what the Lord could do through the salvation of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
