Cam Newton (noted theologian and part-time quarterback from Auburn) replied “It’s a God thing” and then Auburn coach Gene Chizik said, “God was with us” after beating Oregon for the national title tonight.
Whew. That clears some things up. Because I have a cousin dying from breast cancer and we have been wondering why God hasn’t cured her. Apparently He was too busy in Phoenix helping the Tigers get ready for the game. Maybe now He can focus His attention back on my cousin.
And Im guessing also that God was too busy on Saturday with pre-game warmups to notice Loughner buying 9mm ammunition from Walmart in Tucson? Maybe now God can turn His attention back to helping Giffords pull through?
In Romans it warns us that “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds (Eagles and Ducks) and animals and creeping things.”
In Daniel its pretty clear that “all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to his will for His glory”…and not just according to the Auburn playbook.
In Isaiah it says to “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”…even if you aren’t an SEC team.
Is there ever a more dark transaction in the human mind than when we exchange the glory of the immortal God for our own? Can we diminish His deity any further than when we claim His authority and blessing over our own selfish deeds?
Chizik and Cam, shame on you both.
Shame on us all.
Jesus come quickly and put an end to this.
