Step #3…where i run

You know that ever so brief flash of a magical moment in the morning when you first wake up?  That moment of peace and serenity before you remember?

That magical moment before you remember your day, your circumstances, your reality.  God often speaks to me there.

That brief moment is often my most powerful moment with Him all day.  It’s the time He reminds me that He is here.  That He is a gift to me.  That He will take my day as I surrender it to Him.  And that He will give me the strength to surrender.

Look at 1 John 5:1.  Two pieces:  “Everyone that believes” and “has been born of God.”  A word study here indicates that believing in Christ is predicated on having first been born of God.  The word “believes” is present tense.  The phrase “has been born” is perfect tense.  The phrase “has been born” suggests a completed action with ongoing results.  In other words “has been born” is the cause of “believes.”  Being born of God results in believing in Christ.  We cant believe in Christ unless we have first been born of God.

True belief (faith) in Christ in light of our sin leads us to worship, repentance, submission, obedience, and gratitude.  And all of that is the result of us first being born of God.

How do I know I have been born of God?  Because of where I run when life doesn’t line up the way I had planned.  Do I run away from Him or towards Him?  Culture teaches us to run AWAY from God and run to ourselves, others, wealth, recognition, and comfort to satisfy what has gone wrong.  The Spirit draws us to run TO Him when we are born of Him.  Running TO Him is not human….its divine.

Step One:  we are powerless to control our life.  Step Two:  Jesus can rescue us from the insane cul-de-sac of stupidity that we circle as we search for solution within ourselves.

So having had the Spirit illuminate our desperate and helpless condition.  And having received the hope that can only come through Christ…

…Step 3 on the road to recovery is to consider where you run.  Surrender to the Spirit and let Him draw you to the Father.  The faith that you have in Christ is a gift from God.   Receive this gift of faith in Christ from God.

And when you fall asleep tonight…remember to listen for Him first when you wake up.  He will be waiting. Waiting for you to run to Him.
