Jesus in seat 20B at 32,000’

“Outside 20 A”

I noticed how uneasy she seemed in her seat.  Uncomfortable with how to snap the seatbelt, unsure how to turn on her light or adjust the vent.  Her wrist was in a brace.  When I asked her if she needed help she responded yes with tears in her eyes.

She hadn’t traveled since her husband of 50 years died last month.  She had been his exclusive caregiver for several years as his disease progressed.  She was going to see her only daughter who hadn’t been able to come to the funeral.

She apologized for the tears.  I took her hand as we prayed and cried together.  I reminded her of the hope we have in Jesus.

How often do I beg God to answer a prayer…to give me some sign that He is there, that He is even listening.  I realize how selfish that request can be sometimes.  Its obviously not that He isn’t there…its more often that I don’t feel He is focusing enough on my needs.

He gave me my friend in 20B as a reminder that He is here.  Sitting next to me.  Even at 32,000 and 500mph He is at work all around me.  Even there He is sovereign and drawing people to Him. At every moment.  Paul prays in Colossians 4 that he be always watchful, mindful of open doors around him.

Brandon Heath has a great song, “Give Me Your Eyes”: All those people going somewhere, Why have i never cared? Give me your eyes for just one second – Give me your eyes so i can see – Everything that i keep missing – Give me your love for humanity

Blessings, comfort, and peace my 20B friend.  And thanks to God for her….for giving me His eyes, His love.
