I cant live more than 6 minutes without breathing and every night my lungs take in 670,000 liters of air while I sleep without me even thinking about it. But yet, was my waking thought to thank God?
Forgive me in advance for quoting Amy Grant as a deep spiritual authority, but there is great truth in the song “Angels”: “God only knows the times my life was threatened just today. A reckless car ran out of gas before it ran my way. Near misses all around me, accidents unknown, Though I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home.”
God says “yes” to my prayers far more than I sometimes realize. But I either don’t stop to acknowledge Him as the source of my thanks…or I cast off the answer to another source or “coincidence.”
It’s like thanking a hammer for hitting a nail. I often thank the hammer instead of the Carpenter. I thank the creation rather than the Creator. Thank and thank without ceasing!
When the sun starts to rise
And I open my eyes
You are good…so good.
In the heat of the day
With each stone that I lay
You are good…so good.
With ever breath I take in
I’ll tell you I’m grateful again
You are good…so good.
When the moon climbs high
Before each kiss goodnight
You are good…so good.
When the road starts to turn
Around each bend I’ve learned
You are good…so good.
And when somebody’s hand
Holds me up helps me stand
You are good…so good.
When it’s dark and it’s cold
And I can’t feel my soul
When the world is gone gray
And the rain’s here to stay
You are good!
